[Introduction]VIAVI Solutions (VIAVI) (NASDAQ: VIAV) today announced that Rakuten Symphony has selected the VIAVI TM500 Network Tester to validate the performance of its solutions from the lab to the field. The testbed is designed to minimize the problems that arise in the lab, thereby accelerating deployment at scale and simulating a city-wide network.
Recently, nearly 100 service providers and suppliers have participated in the global O-RAN PlugFest, and Open RAN has been more widely accepted and implemented around the world. As Rakuten Symphony’s technology moves from the lab to the field, the company is seeking partners with the appropriate expertise, including VIAVI for network test and measurement.
For decades, VIAVI has provided laboratory and field support to the world’s leading service providers and network equipment manufacturers (NEMs). Based on this extensive experience, VIAVI now provides instrument support for Rakuten Symphony. With more than 85% of network equipment manufacturers using TM500 for gNodeB (gNB) development, VIAVI’s solution can provide excellent scalability, stability, performance for actual network implementation, and is 3GPP compliant. Its main functions include:
● Test a large number of 5G gNB carriers at the system level
● Test high-order MIMO and carrier aggregation functions
● Complex mobility, handover and I-RAT functions between 4G and 5G
● Test thousands of User Equipments (UEs) on multiple carriers
● Test public warning system (PWS) and link adaptation function
Srinivas Gudladana, Head of RAN Engineering at Rakuten Symphony, said: “We approached several lab test vendors in the early stages of technology development and chose to work with VIAVI because of their expertise in lab validation, field deployment and service assurance of mobile networks. All are specialized. Our Open vRAN architecture is designed to help service providers automate operations and network monetization, and VIAVI’s testbed is critical to our commitment to that commitment.”
Rajesh Rao, Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan, VIAVI, said: “As industry vendors embark on the development of open, cloud-native, non-converged architectures, accurate testing against user expectations for quality of service and 3GPP parameters is critical to success at scale. We I’m excited to help Rakuten Symphony optimize its Open vRAN solution based on its unique experience in providing services from lab to field to assurance for more than 200 service providers around the world.”
