Vishay’s new thin-film chip resistors are AEC-Q200 qualified, rated up to 2.5 W, and offer excellent moisture resistance

MALVERN, Pennsylvania – September 15, 2021 – Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced a new series of high-power thin-film wrap-around chip resistors, the PHPA series, that are AEC-Q200 qualified. Vishay Dale thin film PHPA series resistors are available in 1206 and 2512 form factors with power ratings of 1.0 W and 2.5 W, respectively, using self-passivating tantalum nitride resistor film technology with excellent moisture resistance.

In addition to industrial test and measurement equipment, the devices announced today can be used in automotive power supplies, braking systems, on-board chargers and motor deflection circuits. The resistors feature high power ratings, an absolute TCR as low as ± 25 ppm/°C, and an accuracy of ± 0.1 % to meet the precision performance requirements of these applications.

The PHPA series devices have a resistance range of 10 W to 30.1 kW, device noise less than -30 dB, voltage coefficient less than 0.1 ppm/V, and operating voltage of 200 V. The resistors use a high-purity ceramic substrate with enlarged pads on the back to reduce the thermal resistance between the top resistor layer and the PCB solder joints.

The device is RoHS compliant, halogen free, and has a flame retardancy rating of UL 94 V-0. The device operates from -55 °C to +155 °C.

Samples of the PHPA series resistors are available now. Mass-produced products are available through distributors with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks.
